Preparing for TEF Canada
Four mandatory tests for immigration: listening, reading, writing, speaking. What loses points is rarely the language; it is the method of each test.

The four tests
Listening
40 min40 questions in 40 minutes, four sections: picture situations, short messages, long dialogues, sound discrimination.
The trap: the last sections move fast and distractors reuse words you heard. We learn to read the question before listening.
Reading
60 min40 questions in 60 minutes: practical documents, press article, short texts, vocabulary and grammar in context.
The trap: reading the whole text instead of hunting the requested information. We train targeted reading.
Writing
60 minTwo tasks in 60 minutes: continuing a news story (80 words minimum) and an argumentative letter (200 words minimum).
The trap: switching register in the news story, repeating one idea in the letter. One outline per task fixes both.
Speaking
15 minTwo tasks with an examiner: getting information (5 minutes) and persuading (10 minutes).
The trap: not asking enough questions in the first, not structuring the second. We practise with a timer and a transcript.
What CLB 7 requires
For Express Entry, CLB 7 in all four skills unlocks the language points, and CLB 9 maximizes them. In TEF Canada, each skill has its own score threshold; one test below the threshold and the whole set counts for less. That is why we work on all four, starting with the ones that fail candidates most: writing and speaking.

Questions about the TEF Canada
TEF Canada or TCF Canada: which one?
Both are accepted by IRCC and yield a CLB level. The TEF has two writing tasks and two speaking tasks; the TCF has three and three, with slightly different durations. The choice mostly depends on dates and test centres near you. The preparation covers both: the placement test shows where you stand on each.
What does CLB 7 mean?
Canadian Language Benchmarks run from 1 to 12. CLB 7 roughly matches a solid B2; it is the threshold most often targeted for Express Entry and several provincial programs. The table above gives the minimum scores per skill.
How long does preparation take?
It depends on your starting level and the gap to close. A candidate who already has the French but discovers the format often gains one CLB in a few weeks of regular practice. The free placement test gives you that starting point skill by skill.
Is the assisted correction reliable?
The correction follows the official grid, criterion by criterion, and every error comes with an excerpt of your text and an explanation. The CLB shown is a training estimate, not an official result. For important productions you can request a review by a trainer.
How does the mock oral exam with an examiner work?
You choose a slot, pay for the session, and the video link appears in your area. On the day, the examiner runs the exam tasks for forty minutes, then fills in the official grid; you receive the assessment like a correction. One reschedule is possible, at least 24 hours before.
